Joe Craft
Plain City Druggist: We Always Have Time For You! We Want You to Be Our Patient! Please Stop In and Meet Us.
Plain City Druggist was started from scratch in 1999 after Plain City had been without a pharmacy for seven years. The drugstore originally was located in a small space (around 1,000 square feet) in Lovejoy Plaza in downtown Plain City. In 2007, we moved to our current location at 480 South Jefferson Avenue (across the road from Der Dutchman restaurant). We built a new building with much more space and added a compounding suite (Midwestern Compounding Pharmacy).
Joe graduated from The Ohio State University's College of Pharmacy in 1995. After working for Wal-Mart for several years, he decided that independent pharmacy was the right choice for him. After attending an ownership workshop and being mentored by his friend, Ernie Sparks, in London, Joe began looking for pharmacies to purchase in the area. When none materialized, he decided to start Plain City Druggist from scratch. From his efforts and those of our great staff, Plain City Druggist has been named "Small Business of the Year" by the Union County Chamber of Commerce. Joe has been named Plain City Lion of the year, Knight of the Year, and has served as president of the local Plain City Business Association. In 2010, Joe was named Preceptor of the Year by The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy for his mentoring work with pharmacy students in the drugstore.
Robin also graduated from OSU's College of Pharmacy in 1999. Robin is our blogger and takes care of the social media aspects of the pharmacy online.
Meet the pharmacist

Tayler
Pharmacist ManagerTayler has been working at Plain City Druggist since September of 2012 before he ever entered pharmacy school. He enjoys the challenge, as well as meeting many new people on the job. He and his family live in Plain City. His parents are Cliff and Eva Yutzy. You may know Cliff from Yutzy Brothers Inc. Plumbing.
Tayler graduated from Jonathan Alder in 2010 where he played football at the slot position. Tayler went on to THE Ohio State University to study pharmacy, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) in 2014. He continued his education at Ohio State later receiving his PharmD to become a pharmacist in 2018.
Tayler’s first job came at age 14, working for his father’s company, Yutzy Bros Inc. He helped his dad on various jobs and delivered salt to customers. It was good money and allowed him to work closely with his father. Seeing the exemplary customer service his dad demonstrated every day is something Tayler associates with family owned businesses and is something he tries to emulate every day. After working in the hot July sun, his dad, covered in sweat, would tell Tayler to pursue a profession where he could make a living with his mind, not his back. For Tayler, pharmacy was that profession.
At age 20, Tayler was searching for a position at a pharmacy. His experience with his father’s company led him away from opportunities at less personable big chain drugstores. He wanted a position close to Plain City and close to family. Plain City Druggist was the answer. The store already had a reputation as a friendly, neighborhood pharmacy, offering excellent service to the community--exactly the kind of business he wanted to be a part of. When Tayler interviewed with Joe, he told him of his intentions to one day own his own independent pharmacy in his hometown. Joe looked at Tayler puzzled and laughed, saying, “That’s my job!”
Six years later, Tayler is still working closely with Joe. After becoming a licensed pharmacist in 2018, Joe offered Tayler the position of pharmacy manager and he was very excited to accept. In these past six years, Tayler has worked every position in the pharmacy and, in doing so, fell in love with the business and the community we serve. He is very excited for this opportunity and to work in the town that has already given him so much.
Tayler says, "Thank you, Plain City, for your many blessings. This is my hometown, the place of my childhood and so many good memories. It is a dream come true to be able to serve this community and I look forward to working with you all."
Meet the team

Ashley Sullivan
Relief PharmacistAshley Sullivan graduated from The Ohio State University's College of Pharmacy in May 2015.
Ashley was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN. She completed her undergraduate degree double majoring in Pre-Professional and Equine Studies at Saint Mary of the Woods College, which is a small, Catholic college in Indiana. Ashley moved to Hilliard, OH in 2012 to attend pharmacy school at OSU.
Ashley loves Columbus for many reasons, but two of her favorite things about living in the area are the horse industry and the pharmacy network. There are many opportunities both in pharmacy and in the equine world, which brought her to Columbus and will hopefully keep her here.
Ashley and her husband, Eric, run a small quarter horse farm in the London area. The couple are active members in the Madison County Ohio Horseman’s Council and they spend most of their free time at horse shows or on the trails. They host the Madison County OHC Gymkhana series at the fairgrounds. They also have two young sons, Caleb and Conner.
Ashley enjoys being an active part of her community and interacting with others both in the horse world and in pharmacy. Ashley plans to stay in community pharmacy and continue working in independent pharmacy.

Tom
Relief PharmacistTom is a pharmacist with us. Tom graduated with his PharmD in pharmacy in May 2020 from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy.
Tom grew up in Plain City, where his family still lives. He graduated from Jonathan Alder in 2008, where he played saxophone in the marching band and performed in the Show Choir and musicals. He graduated from OSU with a Bachelor's in pharmaceutical science in 2012, and from there went into the PhD program in pharmacology at the OSU College of Pharmacy, in pursuit of the research side of pharmacy.
Tom left grad school with his Master's degree in the summer of 2015 to apply to pharmacy school, having realized he'd rather pursue the more people-focused world of pharmacy practice rather than academic research. He began working for Plain City Druggist in June 2016, and started as a pharmacy student at OSU that fall.
Outside of pharmacy, Tom continues to play saxophone, now in the University Band (a concert band for non-music majors) at OSU. He also enjoys playing board games and tabletop role-playing games with friends.

Haley
Pharmacy InternHaley Green is a third year pharmacy student at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. She originally started with us at Happy Druggist in West Jefferson after working at the McDonald’s there and being one of their best employees. Haley switched over to working in Plain City and we are so glad to have her.
Haley lives in West Jefferson and went to Tolles Technical and Career Center for her Pharmacy Technician certification. She has a dog named Nala and a boyfriend named Joey.

Jack
Pharmacy InternJack is a pharmacy intern who started working at Plain City Druggist in the summer of 2018. He is in his third year of pharmacy school at The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy, and will graduate with his PharmD in May 2022.
Jack is from Grafton, Ohio, a small town in Lorain County to the west of Cleveland, and graduated from Midview High School in 2014. While there, he was a starter on the football team, playing tight end and defensive end, and also a captain on the basketball team where he played the center position (if you’ve seen him around the pharmacy, he’s quite tall). Jack was also involved with the school newspaper, becoming the editor his senior year, and student council. He graduated as the salutatorian of his senior class.
Jack left home to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio through their Honors Tutorial College. Jack also obtained early admission to OSU’s pharmacy program before his high school graduation- he was determined to join the pharmacy profession even then!
While at Ohio University, Jack worked as a teaching assistant for several different chemistry classes and labs. He also worked as a student researcher in organic chemistry under Dr. Stephen Bergmeier. Jack’s work focused on developing new types of drug molecules that could potentially help to treat cancer. One thing that Jack learned from working in a lab for almost four years was that, although he loved the chemistry and concepts behind his work, he didn’t enjoy being cooped up next to his lab equipment every day and with little interaction with other people. This experience further strengthened his goal of working in a community-based health care setting where he could apply his passion for science. Even after this realization, his work eventually led to him completing an undergraduate thesis paper before graduating Magna Cum Laude in May 2018.
Barely two weeks after leaving Athens and moving to Columbus, Jack interviewed with Joe and Tayler at Plain City Druggist and started working in the pharmacy a few days later. Since then, he’s had a blast serving the Plain City community while learning more about the area and its awesome people and working with the rest of the wonderful staff! Jack hopes to be a friendly face for patients in the pharmacy for the foreseeable future.
Outside of pharmacy, Jack likes to spend his time playing pickup basketball with his classmates and rooting for all things Cleveland and OSU sports (especially the Cavs, Browns, and Buckeye football). He also enjoys video gaming with his two younger brothers (who both followed him to OU), biking, and caring for his three aquariums and over thirty pet fish.

Terry
Delivery DriverTerry was born in 1955 to James and Betty Basham. He grew up in the small town of Humboldt, Illinois. Terry went to school at Humboldt Grade School and graduated from Mattoon Senior High in 1974.
Growing up, Terry loved to play baseball and basketball. You could call him an All-American kid with a temper.
Two major events changed Terry’s life. One took place in 1972 when he became a born-again Christian. The other, when at 17, in 1973, he surrendered his life to preach the gospel. This is what brought Terry to Plain City, Ohio.
Before he came to Ohio, Terry graduated from Fellowship Baptist College in 1983. He went on to pastor churches in Illinois, Virginia, Indiana, and Arkansas. Just before arriving in Plain City, he served as Executive Vice President at Blessed Hope Baptist College for almost ten years. He received his Doctor of Theological Studies during that time from the college. Terry left this position to return to his true calling, pastoring churches.
Terry was called by the New Life Baptist Church to serve as their pastor in August 2008. The church is now located at 128 West Main Street in Plain City.
In 2015, Terry came to work for Plain City Druggist as a delivery driver to supplement his income. Working for the drugstore has helped Terry become more acquainted with the community.
Terry has been married 43 years this coming June 22, 2019 to Kathy McKinzey Basham. They have two sons and eight grandchildren. Their sons, Terry II and Joel, are Baptist pastors, too. Terry II lives in Lawton, Oklahoma with is wife, Valerie, and their five children. Joel lives in Fredonia, Kansas with his wife, Christina, and their three children.

Amber
Pharmacy InternAmber Lee is a third year pharmacy student at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and will graduate in May 2022. She has lived in the Columbus area her whole life and grew up in Dublin where she attended Dublin Coffman High School and graduated in 2014.
After high school, Amber decided to stay in Columbus and attend The Ohio State University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree in May of 2018. She had such a great undergrad experience at The Ohio State University that she decided to stay an extra four years to pursue her PharmD.
Amber was interested in pursuing pharmacy ever since she was in middle school, but wasn’t really sure about it until she got to shadow a pharmacist at the hospital where she volunteered during her senior year of high school. She saw what a big impact a pharmacist can make in a patient's life and found it very rewarding. Ever since then, she knew pharmacy was right for her. Amber’s not quite sure where she wants to end up in the pharmacy field, but she loves working in the retail setting at Plain City Druggist.
Outside of pharmacy, Amber loves staying active and loves running and playing sports, especially tennis. Tennis has always been a huge part of her life growing up and she played competitively for about eight years. Although she does not play competitively anymore, she still enjoys playing with her friends and family for fun.
